Port of Gdansk throughput up 15.6% to over 23.47 mln t in 8M’15

In January-August 2015, Port of Gdansk (Poland) handled 23,472,000 t of cargo (+15.6%, year-on-year), the stevedoring company says.

Transshipment of grain fell by 2.1% to 1,015,471 t, transshipment of general cargo and timber was flat, year-on-year, at 7,483,533 t, other bulk cargo (aggregates, sulphur, ore) – down 13.1% to 2,174,817 t, coal – up 39.7% to 2,955,457 t, liquid fuel – up 34.7% to 9,842,227 t. 

The port of Gdansk is a major international transportation hub situated in the central part of the southern Baltic coast. Besides handling bulk cargoes (oil, coal, metal ores) the port provides a number of line services linking it with the ports of the Baltic Sea and Western Europe (primarily ferry, construction and ro-ro lines). In 2014, the port handled 32,277,558 t of cargo.
