Sea Port St. Petersburg handles first cargo of Wartsila DGSs for LNPP

Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant has taken delivery of the first shipment of diesel generator sets (DGSs) supplied by Wartsila Finland OY, Finland. The equipment is intended for the LNPP No 1 power unit under construction, the LNPP press office said.

Two 140-tonne DGSs for emergency power supply system were shipped to Sea Port of St. Petersburg, the Gulf of Finland, and then transshipped and transported by heavy-duty trucks to the construction site, where the units were handled by heavy-lift cranes Liebherr 1350 and installed in front of the stand-by diesel power plant.

The imported equipment will soon undergo acceptance tests procedures and then a teem of the contractor will begin its installation and pre-commissioning. These works will be carried out under the supervision of the chief engineer of the manufacturer and specialists of electrical shop of Leningrad NPP.

Overall, five units of diesel generator sets were ordered under the project for each power unit: four DGSs of emergency power supply system and a generating set of reliable power supply of operational capacity 6.3 MW each.

Delivery and installation of the remaining three DGS sets is scheduled for early 2016.
