LA Port welcomes 18,000teu CMA CGM Benjamin Franklin, largest ship ever to reach U.S. costs

On December 26 the 1,300-feet long, 177-feet wide CMA CGM Benjamin Franklin called at the Port of Los Angeles and moored at APM Terminals, Pier 400, local media reported.

The 18,000 TEU containership deployed by CMA CGM on the Pearl River Express, a transpacific service, is the largest ship ever to dock at the U.S. ports.

The giant vessel will also call at Oakland port on December 31.

Marseille-headquartered CMA CGM was founded in 1978 by Jacques R. Saadé. Today the French company has become the world’s third largest container shipping group and number one in France operating across the world’s oceans. It is also one of the first global shipping operators to have control over the whole logistics chain offering a door-to-door service that integrates both inland waterway transport (River Shuttle Containers) and railways (CMA Rail), as well as port handling facilities and logistics on land.
