Russian Navy oceanographic research ship Admiral Vladimirsky to reach the Antarctic in several days (photo)
For first time in 30 years the Russian Navy oceanographic research ship Admiral Vladimirsky is performing a cruise to the Antarctic, says press center of RF Defence Ministry.
Since the start of the expedition, the ship has already performed hydrographic survey of 21,700 km the sea bottom.
Military topographers have carried out over 100 research works at the depths of up to 2000 metres.
On January 9, the ship visited the port of Cape Town. At the preset time, the Admiral Vladimirsky continues the cruise in the areas where the Indian Ocean borders the Atlantic Ocean in stormy weather (wind – about 20 metres per second, waves – 5 balls).
