ZiO-Podolsk ships hydraulic accumulators for nuclear-powered icebreaker Arktika being built by Baltiysky Zavod

Power Engineering Plant ZiO-Podolsk PJSC (corporate member of Rosatom’s machine-building division Atomenergomash) has manufactured and shipped four hydraulic accumulators for RITM-200 nuclear reactor for the new generation icebreaker Arktika, says Rosatom.

The hydraulic accumulators are intended for storing of primary water and supplying it to the reactor in case of depressurization of the primary-coolant system. They are also to be used as a pressure compensator.

Each hydraulic accumulator weighs 11 t, with height of 5.1 m and diameter of 1.4 m.

ZiO-Podolsk is manufacturing RITM-200 plants for the lead and serial icebreakers of new generation, Project 22220.

Reactor plant RITM-200 has been designed by Afrikantov design bureau (JSC Afrikantov OKBM, Nizhny Novgorod), one of the leading design and production centers of atomic power engineering.

The LK-60 of Project 22220, Arktika, will be the world’s largest and most powerful icebreaker. The icebreaker will have the length of 173.3 m, width - 34 m, designed draught – 10.5 m, minimum working draught – 8.55 m, displacement - 33,540 t. The icebreaker will be able to break though ice of up to three meters thick.
