“Ventspils nafta” terminals welcomed seven pupils on the Shadow Day

On the Shadow Day on February 10, 2016, “Ventspils nafta” terminals (VNT) welcomed seven pupils – five of them were from the Ventspils 6th Secondary School, one from the Ventspils 1st Primary School and one from the Ventspils 1st Gymnasium, says VNT. The pupils shadowed VNT’s Managing Director Lars Patzlaff, Operations Director Vilnis Riekstiņš, Head of Fire Safety and Rescue Arvis Kņazs and Communication Project Manager Janīna Biteniece.

“Since creating a new generation of engineering professionals is important in Latvia, to ensure the company’s labour needs in the future, we participated in the Shadow Day also this year. That was an opportunity to show young people what the company does and what knowledge needs to be developed at a higher education institution that will enable them to make the best career choice. I hope the pupils felt the enthusiasm of our employees and that someday they will join our team of terminal’s professionals,” emphasizes the Communication Project Manager Janīna Biteniece.

Throughout the day the pupils had the opportunity to go through a video security check, participate in various daily meetings of the company, practical experiments with firefighting devices and in the making of the tournament “VNT Cup 2016”.

“I chose VNT because I’m interested in chemistry and everything related to it. I wanted to know more about the work of the company as such. What I liked very much is the kind employees, modern buildings and laboratories. In the future I would like to work in this industry because I was excited by what I saw. I would like to work as a dispatcher or a lab employee,” says Paula Denisa Treublute from grade 8b of the Ventspils 6th Secondary School who shadowed the Operations Director Vilnis Riekstiņš.

In turn Rūta Lasmane from the Ventspils 6th Secondary School shadowed the Head of Fire Safety and Rescue Arvis Kņazs: “I was interested in more detailed processing of the oil products that we see daily. Overall I had a very interesting time. What I will remember most will be the demonstrated experiments and the practical approach. This position has got me interested and I would like to work in this field.”
