As of March 22, water level at the Tsimlyansky Reservoir is 32.46 m BS (Baltic System) while the designed level is 32.46 m BS. According to IAA PortNews correspondent, this was announced by Sergei Gaidayev, head of Azov-Don Basin Administration, at the round-table meeting dedicated to protection of water resources in Rostov and Rostov Region.
According to him, afflux of the Tsimlyansky Reservoir is 1,080 cbm /sec, discharge of the Tsimlyansky waterworks facility – 180 cbm /sec.
Sergei Gaidayev emphasized that the afflux of 1,080 cbm /sec is a the flood peak of 2016.
“We usually see the peak flood in May… With a peak afflux in March we have a longer drawdown period this year as compared with the previous one. The highest level will be registered in early-mid April, — said Sergei Gaidayev. — Last year the highest level of 32.54 m BS was registered in May 22 – 28.”
Sergei Gaidayev reminded that dead-water of the Tsimlyansky Reservoir is set at 31.0 m BS.
Sergei Gaidayev also said the experts expect the low water period to last for 30-35 years. In this context, construction of the Bagayevsky hydrosystem on the Lower Don is required.
