Port of Gdansk throughput up 6.2% to 8.8 mln t in QI’2016

In January-March 2016, Port of Gdansk (Poland) handled 8,801,393 t of cargo (+6.2%, year-on-year), the stevedoring company says.

Transshipment of grain fell by 18.9% to 354,362 t, transshipment of general cargo and timber climbed by 18.7% to 3,483,159 t, other bulk cargo (aggregates, sulphur, ore) – up almost 1.4 times to 1,001,680 t, coal – up over 1.7 times to 1,251,613 t, liquid fuel – down 22.2% to 2,710,579 t. 

The port of Gdansk is a major international transportation hub situated in the central part of the southern Baltic coast. Besides handling bulk cargoes (oil, coal, metal, ores) the port provides a number of line services linking it with the ports of the Baltic Sea and Western Europe (primarily ferry, construction and ro-ro lines). In 2015, the port handled 35.91 mln t of cargo.
