Saudi Border Guard acquires two Damen Cutter Suction Dredgers

Saudi Border Guard has acquired two Damen Cutter Suction Dredgers (CSD 450) for harbour maintenance duties. As Damen has a full range of dredgers in stock, it could customise and ship two full option dredgers within a short time span, the company said in its press release.

Being satisfied with quality and services the previous delivery of 6 patrol vessels in 2000, the client approached Damen for dredging equipment. What is more, Damen had the right dredgers on stock: two CSDs 450 with a maximum dredging depth of -12m and a mixture production of 3,000 m3/h. Both dredgers were to be fitted out with an extensive list of options, including an accommodation unit and positioning, navigation and communication equipment. Beside these, the independence of the dredgers was assured adding the anchor boom installation, and the efficiency was boosted by adding a spud carriage pontoon.

The delivery also included two complete dredging packages. These packages consist of both stationary dredgers plus their floating and shore pipe lines, a full set of spares and training. This training will be given to the crew on the job. This will enable the crew to familiarise themselves quickly with the new dredgers.

The cutter suction dredgers will be based at different border guard stations in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, being Jeddah on the Red Sea and Damman in the Gulf Ara. They will perform various maintenance dredging jobs independently, such as clearing the areas at jetties and keeping harbours to depth.
