The Russian Ministry of Defence and Admiralty Shipyards signed a contract for the construction of two state-of-the-art ice-class patrol ships of project 23550 for the Navy's fleet, the Defense Ministry said.
The ships are scheduled for delivery to the Russian Navy until the end of 2020.
Construction will be carried out in the framework of the Armaments 2020 Priority Procurement Programme.
The 23550 series patrol ship of ice class is an absolutely new concept of a multifunctional vessel, combining the capabilities of tug, icebreaker and patrol boat.
The ship can sail in the tropical and the Arctic waters, capable of breaking 1,5-meter-thick ice.
