Low-sulphur fuel can have a negative impact on technical condition of vessel’s fuel system, IAA PortNews journalist cites Cand.Sc. Lev Novikov, Chief Editor of the Scientific & Technical Journal “Engines Manufacturing”, as saying at the Conference on Baltic and North Sea NECA Roadmap.
According to him, with its lubricating properties sulphur is good for a fuel system while the use of low-sulphur fuel can cause technical problems in several years.
From January 1, 2016, sulphur content in fuel should not exceed 0.10 % in emission control areas (SECAs).
