Tallink Grupp appoints captain of its new LNG-driven fast ferry Megastar
AS Tallink Grupp announced that Captain of the passenger ferry Baltic Queen, Vahur Sõstra has been appointed as the captain for the new LNG-driven fast ferry Megastar delivered in the beginning of 2017. Captain Sõstra will be engaged already this year in the trainings of the crew for the smooth launch of the new ship to Helsinki-Tallinn route.
The Technical Director of Tallink, Captain Tarvi-Carlos Tuulik said that Vahur Sõstra is a great and experienced captain, who knows the specifics of the Helsinki-Tallinn route exceptionally well. „By that I dont only mean the knowledge about safe navigations, but also experience how to handle the ship and manage the crew on that route so that our passengers feel good onboard no matter what day it is or what whether it is. All those skills has he obtained by sailing the route with the fast ferry Star since beginning as well as now improving his experience on the passenger ferry Baltic Queen, which has similar size as Megastar“, added Tuulik.
Vahur Sõstra has been working as the Captain in Tallink`s fleet already for 12 years. He has been the captain of the cargo ferries Kapella and Regal Star and passenger ferries Superfast VIII, Star and Baltic Queen. Sõstra has also been in the project management team for the delivery of the fast ferry Star, managing the launch of her operations in 2007.
Sõstra is born in 1968. And graduated the St. Peterburg`s Maritime Academy as an master mariner. In 1994-2004 he worked as a deck officer on different vessels of Eesti Merelaevandus and Tallink and from 2004as the captain on Tallink vessels. His hobbies include naturally everything related to the sea, hobby- and professional trainings and travelling.
