On July 29, Pella Shipyard (Leningrad Region) laid down yet another missile craft of Project 22800 for RF Navy, says press center of RF Defence Ministry.

As Yury Borisov, Deputy Defence Minister of the Russian Federation, said at the keel-laying ceremony, “a large order has been awarded to the shipyard, our fleet is in need of such ships”. According to him, there no ships of this class in the world while the Ministry recognizes Pella as a partner which delivers ships of proper quality and within the scheduled time.

Yury Borisov said the ship named Shkval, the Russian for Storm, will be armed with 8 Kalibr missile systems which “made a good showing in the course of the operation in Syria”. The ships of this Project will also be equipped with air defense missile/gun system Pantsyr M.

In December 2015 Pella Shipyard laid keels for two fast attack crafts of Project 22800 (named "Hurricane" and "Typhoon"). Under the contract with RF Defence Ministry  the shipyard is to build seven ships of the project.

The lead ship named Hurricane is to be delivered in December 2017, the delivery of the first serial ship, the Typhoon, is scheduled for 2018.

The vessels will have a displacement of about 800 tonnes, maximum speed of more than 30 knots and state-of-the-art high-precision missiles and artillery systems.

The design incorporates the following features: high maneuverability, high seaworthiness and superstructure and hull stealth technology. The missile craft is able to perform tasks in the maritime zone 3,000 nm off the ship homeport.

The 22800 series missile boat was designed by Almaz Central Marine Design Bureau.

Leningrad Shipyard Pella was founded in 1950 and privatized in 1992. The holding incorporates a head company and a number of subsidiaries. The shipyard specializes in construction of tug boats for Russian customers.
