Port of Reni seven-month cargo volume plummets 30.4% to 413,000 tonnes
Total freight throughput at the terminals of Odessa region, Ukraine based Port of Reni in January-July 2016 fell 30.4% to 413,000 tonnes, the Center for Transport Strategies (CTS), citing Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority (USPA).
Handling of dry bulk cargo dropped by 28,3% to 353,000 tonnes, including nearly 81,000 tonnes of chemical and mineral fertilizers (a 17.3% decline), 127,000 tonnes of grain (+ 4.9%) and 146,000 tonnes of other cargo.
There was a 40.7-percent slump in the liquid bulk segment to 59,000 tonnes, including 33,000 tonnes of oil products (- 60.5%), 16,000 tonnes of chemical cargoes and 9,000 tonnes of other liquid bulk cargo.
In the seven-month period the port handled 490 tonnes of break bulk cargo, including 280 tonnes of chemicals / fertilizers and 210 tonnes of other goods.
Port of Reni comprises three cargo areas and a ferry complex. The quay wall length is 3,927 m with total land area of 175.6 hectares. The First and Second cargo areas specialize in handling general cargo, and the 3rd one - in bulk cargo. There is also a facility for handling trucks. The port has two dedicated berths, with one for heavy, project cargo which is equipped with 250-tonne bridge crane and the berth length of 120 meters. The Reni port has an oil terminal capable of receiving sea / river 10000-tonne oil tankers and handling up to 500,000 tonnes of oil products annually. The total area of indoor warehouses is 25,200 sqm and of outdoor ones of 246,200 sqm.
Harbor fleet of the port provides towing services for vessels on the Danube from the Port of Ust-Dunaysk to the ports of former Yugoslavia. In 2015 freight throughput dropped by 38.1% to 906,902 tonnes.
