Cargo traffic at Latvia's Freeport of Riga drops 10.5% to 21.230 million tonnes
The volume of exports/imports, transit goods handled at the Free Port of Riga (Latvia) in January-July 2016 declined by 10.5% from the same period a year earlier to 21,230 million tonnes, the Freeport of Riga Authority said.
A 19.3% drop was reported in coal volume, to slightly more than 7 million tonnes and a 17.1-percent decline (5,414,000 tonnes) in oil product transshipment. The volume of wood pellets decreased by 2.5% to 348,200 tonnes. At the same time handling of ore soared by 96.5% to 249,200 tonnes.
Container throughput also grew by 3.1% to 215,496 TEUs.
Passenger traffic rose 7.4% to 333,022 people, including 43,417 (+7.6%) of cruise passengers.
Riga, Latvia based Free Port of Riga lies on both banks of the River Daugava. The port encompasses 6.348 hectares, including 13,818-meter-long quay wall with berths max depths of 16 meters and ship draft of 12.2 m. Transit goods account for 80% of overall freight traffic moved to / from the CIS countries. In 2015, the Port of Riga handled 40,055,800 tonnes of different cargoes.
