JAXPORT's Talleyrand Terminal provides ship-to-rail service for project cargo

JAXPORT’s Talleyrand Marine Terminal served as the transportation hub for a 269,000-pound gas-fired, reciprocating engine en route to Gainesville, Fla. The 37-foot long Wärtsilä engine arrived aboard a Spliethoff vessel from Rauma, Finland and highly trained master riggers at Talleyrand transferred the cargo from the ship to a dock-side 12-axel railcar, the Jacksonville Port Authority said in a press release.

Freight forwarder deugro (USA), Inc., oversaw the process as Seaonus workers used the ship’s onboard cranes to lift and position the engine onto the railcar. The use of Talleyrand’s on-dock rail facilities provided the shortest distance to the engine’s final destination at the Gainesville Regional Utilities South Energy Center.

“The Wärtsilä engine will support the UF Health South Campus, which includes the Cancer Hospital and new UF Health Heart & Vascular and Neuromedicine Hospitals,” said Chuck Heidt, Project Manager at Gainesville Regional Utilities. “I am very satisfied with the level of service provided to us from the port and its partners, as well as the professionalism of the staff and the safety conscious attitude.”

Talleyrand Marine Terminal offers 4,780 linear feet of berth space and on-dock rail facilities with direct switching service for Norfolk Southern and CSX rail lines. The terminal is only 25 minutes from Florida East Coast Railroad’s intermodal ramp, and is conveniently located within minutes of interstates I-95 and I-10.

Northeast Florida, USA based JAXPORT is a full-service, international trade seaport situated at the crossroads of the nation’s rail and highway network. The port owns, maintains and markets three cargo terminals, a cruise terminal and an intermodal rail terminal along the St. Johns River: Blount Island Marine Terminal, Dames Point Marine Terminal, Talleyrand Marine Terminal, the JAXPORT Cruise Terminal and the JAXPORT Intermodal Container Transfer Facility.
