IBIA's annual convention to focus on trends and challenges in bunkering sector

The annual conference of the International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA) will be held November 7-11 in Gibraltar at the 5-star Sunborn Gibraltar superyacht hotel, IBIA said in a media release.

The event will convene bunker suppliers and traders, ship managers, shipowners, superintendents, lawyers and maritime services providers, and network with government, maritime agencies and the Port Authority.

The convention will feature a first-class two-day IBIA Conference and Exhibition plus some highly-professional training courses, including the renowned two-day Oxford Bunker Course (Advanced Commercial) and the one-day IBIA Basic Bunker Course, the Association said in its press release.
The IBIA (The International Bunker Industry Association) Conference programme includes the following topics:

  • the development of key bunkering port hubs and their impact on surrounding ports in respect to best bunkering practise, including the use of mass flow meters.
  • the key environmental issues being debated today by the regulators and industry, from the international maritime organisation to Port State Control, and the issue of compliance and policing.
  • the new fuels in the market – from hybrid to low sulphur fuels to biodiesels.
  • the potential of LNG as a viable, inexpensive, clean marine fuel and compare it against scrubbing and other options

The event will offer a strong panel of bunkering experts who will answer questions from delegates on a wide range of subjects, including legal, technical, operational, environmental and commercial.

There will be two prime exhibition opportunities at the Convention:

  • The first is on board the Sunborn during the course of the IBIA Conference (all day Wednesday 9 November and the morning of Thursday 10 November), where exhibitors will network with delegates during the Conference refreshment breaks.
  • The second is at the Gibraltar Cruise Terminal (all afternoon on Thursday 10 November), where exhibitors will network with delegates during a walking lunch and throughout the afternoon during specially organised visits to bunker barges moored alongside the terminal.

The International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA) is the voice of the suppliers and end users of marine fuel. Conceived in 1992 it has expanded steadily with a worldwide membership comprising shipowners, charterers, bunker suppliers, traders, brokers, barging companies, storage companies, surveyors, port authorities, credit reporting companies, lawyers, P&I clubs, equipment manufacturers, shipping journalists and marine consultants. Today membership stands at over 600 members from 66 countries.
