As of today, the global order backlog numbers 138 LNG carriers, IAA PortNews correspondent cites CS LNG consultant Juris Popils, as saying at the VI Baltic Oil and Gas Trade and Transportation Conference held in Riga (Latvia).
According to him, the backlog of orders includes small capacity and conventional tankers, floating storage facilities and platforms. The existing fleet numbers 477 units. Some 240 mln t of LNG is transported annually along about 500 routes.
Juris Popils says Australian LNG dominates in the APR market, the competition in the global market is very high. The expert was quite skeptical about the plans of the USA to dominate in the market.
