In January-September 2016 cargo turnover of JSC “Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg” (SPSP, a member of UCL Holding) amounted to 5.55 mln tons of cargoes which is 9.9% less than for the same period of last year, SPSP says in a press releease.
The change in the volume was mainly caused by the decrease of scrap metals and mineral fertilizers handling. More specifically, the decline in purchase shown by importing countries, on the one hand, and price rise on domestic market, on the other, led to the decrease of scrap metals handling volumes in the Sea Port by 47.7% amounting to 0.56 mln tons. Due to reallocation of cargo traffic in favour of specialized terminals of Russia and Baltic countries, handling of mineral fertilizers in bulk dropped by 8.7 times down to 49 thousand tons.
All the other types of cargoes showed positive dynamics. Handling of ferrous metals in the company increased by 9.4% up to 2.2 mln tons, non-ferrous metals – by 5.5% up to 1.2 mln tons, which is connected with the increase of export shipments of steel and aluminum by iron and steel works of Russia.
Due to expansion by the company’s clients of their sales markets and acquisition of new producers of wooden pellets, handling of pellets grew by 34% up to 150 th tons. Import deliveries of food cargoes grew by 37% up to 65 th tons. Attraction of new cargo traffics from CIS countries resulted in growth of grain volumes by 16% up to 89 th tons.
During the reported period the Sea Port increased handling of ro-ro cargoes mainly owing to import cargoes arriving by ferry lines. The number of handled motor vehicles amounted to 27.46 th units which is by 30% more than for the same period of last year. Such a positive dynamics was caused by the growth of export volume of Russian cars.
Handling volumes of alumina remained at the same level – 0.64 mln tons as well as the volumes of project, heavy-weight and oversized cargoes – 50 th. tons.
On the whole, in January-September of 2016 the volume of general cargoes reduced by 4.7%, down to 4.77 mln tons, of loose and bulk cargoes – by 32.7%, down to 0.78 mln tons. Outbound traffic of the Sea Port amounted to 4.56 mln tons, inbound – 0.99 mln tons. The share of outbound traffic in the structure of the company’s turnover is 82.2%, inbound – 17.8%.
