Vice-Admiral Kulakov rendered assistance to the Ukrainian fishing boat in the Mediterranean Sea

Vice-Admiral Kulakov, major ASW ship of the Northern Fleet, has finished towing the distressed Ukrainian fishing boat to the anchorage in the area of the Gavdos Island (30 miles to the south from the Crete Island), says press center of RF Defence Ministry.

In the nearest time, the vessel will be handed to the Greek rescue services. Health status of the Ukrainian crew is satisfactory.

The Russian warship passed more than 140 nautical miles to tug the fishing boat to the assigned area. The Ukrainian sailors were provided with necessary assistance, including the medical one. 

The Vice Admiral Kulakov will continue its mission within the permanent grouping of the Russian Navy in the Mediterranean.

At 8:20 (MSK) on November 24, the Vice-Admiral Kulakov, major ASW ship of the Northern Fleet, received a mayday call from the Ukrainian fishing boat registered at the Mariupol port with seven Ukrainian citizens on board.

The Russian warship immediately moved to provide assistance to the distressed vessel.

The Ukrainian vessel has lost its way since November 21 and has been adrift for two days.

The injured Ukrainian seaman was provided with qualified medical assistance onboard the Russian anti-submarine ship.  

The rescue operation was complicated by 4-degree sea disturbance, squally wind and thunderstorm.
