Deepwater Container Terminal Gdansk ended 2016 with an operational result at the level of approximately 1,3 million TEU (20-foot containers). It is a record in the history of the terminal and the entire Polish containerization. Already in October 2016 the number of containers handled exceeded the overall result in the previous year (1,068 million TEU).
The achievement of such a result was influenced by many factors, from the growing need for directs calls of oceanic container vessels in the Baltic to the visible growth of cargo targeted at Eastern and Central Europe markets. Over the last few years DCT Gdansk has continually expanded the portfolio of clients. Attracting new business partners as well as the increase in container handling proves that DCT Gdansk is an attractive transshipment hub for the shipping lines delivering cargo in that part of the world.
Last year was special not only because of the record-breaking results but also due to the fact that one of the largest investments in Pomerania – the construction of the second deepwater berth (T2) in DCT Gdansk, was successfully finalized. T2 investment, completed on time and on budget, enriched the terminal with the next berth, new yards and state-of-the-art terminal equipment, doubling DCT’s annual handling capacity from 1,5 million to 3 million TEU.
