Abu Dhabi Ship Building PJSC (ADSB), a leading provider of construction, repair and refit services for naval, military and commercial vessels in mid-July 2016 commissioned the company’s first floating dock located in Mina Zayed. Since then the company has completed routine drydocking, electrical and mechanical works for 20 customers, ADSB said in a media release.
The new floating drydock greatly enhances the company’s service capabilities, allowing ADSB to service ships that were previously too large to be handled to their headquarters in Mussafah. The 180 length x 30 m width floating drydock allows ADSB to dock vessels up to 180m in length, or by comparison almost the length of two football pitches. With the new floating dock ADSB can provide the following services: structural steel, mechanical, pipe and electrical repairs, state of the art hull treatment with the aid of robotic machines and tank coating work.
The facility now enables ADSB to service the oil and gas industry and the company aims to attract new customers across diverse industries through a network of agents representing 16 countries across Europe and Asia who will market the new facility.
Abu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB) is a United Arab Emirates Public Joint Stock Company. Of the 211,992,000 shares outstanding, 40% is owned by Mubadala Development Company, 10% by the Government of Abu Dhabi and the remaining 50% by over 5,000 individuals.
The company was founded in 1995 through cooperation between the Government of Abu Dhabi and Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS), the largest shipbuilder in the United States. At that time, NNS was also a major investor, having purchased 40% of the shares of the company. However, the UAE Government bought back 10% from NNS in 2001 and the other 30% in 2002.
