Igor Ponomaryov Vice-President of United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) has been appointed Director General of Severnaya Verf shipyard (USC). According to the press center of the shipyard, Igor Ponomaryov will retain his position of USC Vice-President.
Igor Ponomaryov was born on 30 October 1954. He is a graduate of the Leningrad Higher Naval School of Engineers named after V. Lenin, Naval Academy named after А. Grechko and Moscow Institute of International Business. After the service on Pacific Fleet ships and at Main Technical Directorate of RF Navy he was a deputy to the head of Naval Department at Rosoboronexport.
From 2011 head of USC Department for Military and Technical Cooperation. In 2013, was appointed as Vice-President for Naval Construction. From 2012 till 2015 – Director General of Sudoexport; from 2013 till 2015 – Acting Director General of the Baltic Shipyard “Yantar”.
According to the statement, the new Director General sees his task in reduction of construction terms and participating in implementation of the project on development of a new shipbuilding complex.
OJSC "Severnaya Verf" Shipyard (corporate member of United Shipbuilding Corporation) is a among the leading shipbuilding companies of Russia’s defence industry. The company was founded on November 14, 1912, as "Putilovskaya Shipyard." Since that time the shipyard has built more than 600 warships and commercial vessels including missile cruisers, antiaircraft ships, antisubmarine ships, destroyers, passenger ships, bulk carriers, container carriers, Ro-Ro ships, tugboats, support ships, ferries and floating docks. The shipyard’s backlog of orders currently includes the series of frigates, corvettes and other vessels.
United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC OJSC) is the largest shipbuilding company in Russia. It was set up in 2007 with 100% federal ownership. The holding comprises 60 companies and organizations (major shipbuilding and shiprepairing companies as well as leading design bureaus). Currently, USC consolidates about 80% of the domestic shipbuilding complex. The Russian market is the main focus of the state corporation though it also exports its products to 20 countries worldwide.
