Rosterminalugol JSC, the largest dedicated coal port in the Baltic region, part of Russia’s largest coal port holding Port Management Company LLC, says it is the first in Russia to have installed and started testing the equipment allowing for considerable improvement of coal ports safety.
The system installed at the port of Ust-Luga comprises thermal-imaging units and software for permanent telemonitoring of coal piles temperature.
The company says 12 thermal cameras are placed at the key points of the terminal’s storage area. An operator can see the information at the monitor. The fully-automated system ensures the control of the coal piles temperature in the framework of the limits set by the company specialists. If the pile temperature exceeds the limit the system makes a sound signal and an operator sees the area outside the limits as a lighted area on the monitor.
Rosterminalugol is also the first company in Russia to successfully apply transborders for fast making up empty wagons into trains. They ensure making of trains at several parallel tracks without additional railroad switches. Information system of Rosterminalugol allows for process monitoring, real-time records management and information exchange with Russian Railways OJSC and the clients. An electronic document management system is applied at the terminal.
