In January-March 2017, Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg JSC (SPSP, member of UCL Holding) handled 1.8 mln tons of cargoes which is 4.6% more than in the same period of last year, SPSP says in a press release.
According to the statement, the positive dynamics was driven by the growth in transshipment of general cargo by 18% to 1.76 mln t. transshipment of ferrous metal exceeded 1 mln t (+57%, year-on-year), non-ferrous metal - by 1.2% to 0.4 mln t.
The reported period also saw a 44-pct growth of pellet exports (to 58,400 t), 28-pct growth of food cargo imports (to 18,400 t). Transshipment of project cargo, heavy and oversized cargo was flat, year-on-year, at more than 14,000 t.
Container throughput of the company doubled to 4,000 TEUs. The growth should be attributed to the new service on container handling offered by the company for its clients. Sea Connect line has been operating at the Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg from December.
In the segment of general cargo, the decrease was shown by metal scrap - 2.7 times to 77,000 t and Ro-RO cargo - 28% to 72,000 t.
Transshipment of dry bulk cargo plunged by 4.6 times to 52,000 t mostly due to 21-time fall of ore transshipment (to 8,400 t). In late 2016 this cargo was shifted another com of UCL Port.
Transshipment of bulk mineral fertilizers dropped 2.3 times to 8,700 t with the redirection of cargo flows to dedicated terminals of Russia and other Baltic states. Transshipment of grain fell by 33% to 32,000 t amid unfavorable market situation in Turkey and Egypt, major importers of Russian grain.
In the reporting period, exports via Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg grew by 16%, year-on-year, to 1.69 mln t, imports – sank by 57% to 0.11 mln t. Exports accounted for 93% of the company’s throughput – imports – for 7%.
