Port and Flag State Control and Inspection Regime Background - EPDC delivered to GEFO

On 8 May, WMU President Doumbia-Henry welcomed participants from Gesellschaft für Oeltransporte mbH (GEFO) for an Executive Professional Development Course (EPDC) on Implementation of Port State Control & Flag State Control and Inspection Regime Background. Press center of WMU says she noted that this is the fourth EPDC delivered to GEFO since 2014 and emphasized the relevance of the course to UN Sustainable Development Goal 4, in particular, focused on ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all.

The two-day course was designed to ensure that knowledge of those engaged in management issues within shore-based offices as well as on-board operations was kept up to date. The participants included 31 professionals responsible for installation and operation of company-owned safety systems. Topics addressed covered the latest developments in international activities concerning maritime safety including IMO activities related to inspection regimes, accident investigations and the improvement of management of maritime operational risks. The implementation of rules and regulations, legal frameworks and their aims and objectives were also covered as well as state-of-the-art technical equipment and technological developments used for modern systems of risk management monitoring of operational processes.

WMU Staff involved in the delivery of the course included Professor Jens-Uwe Schröder-Hinrichs, Lecturer Megan Drewniak, and Technical Officer Armando Graziano. Guest Lecturer, Ken Maddox, also participated in the delivery of the course sharing his over 30 years of experience in upstream oil and gas construction, operation and maintenance as well as hands-on incident investigation experience.

Through customized executive courses, WMU meets the educational needs and requirements of particular organizations and actively supports the commitment to UN Sustainable Development Goal 4: inclusive and equitable quality education and the promotion of lifelong learning opportunities for all. Previous offerings to GEFO include Maritime Safety, Emergency Management According to ISM Code, and Improving the Implementation of the ISM Code.
