New strike announced in all ports in Spain

Following the process of Port Law reform in Spain, last week the Government submitted a revised Royal Decree for its final approval by the Parliament. The new Decree has been done in accordance with the EU requirements to avoid further sanctions, Samskip said in its press release.

This revised document is not supported by the Unions, who last Saturday (13th of May) released a new official strike warning document containing the planned strike actions, shall the Decree be approved on the 24th May. The new actions are planned three days per week (Monday, Wednesday & Friday) on the odd hours. The strikes will take place on the 24th, 26th, 29th and 31st of May, and 2nd, 5th, 7th and 9th of June.

The ongoing industrial disruptions in the Spanish ports will be causing severe delays in Samskip schedule. Consequently, the costs for operating the Spanish services are increasing significantly. Therefore Samskip to apply a strike surcharge for all units sailing to/from Bilbao & Vigo until further notice.

The strike surcharge is: €65 per unit laden / empty
