On 26 May 2017, the Freeport of Riga was visited by the international conference "TransBaltica 2017" participants in the framework of a study tour, the port says. The annual conference organized by the RMS Forum company, Latvian Transit Business Association in collaboration with the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Latvia, Latvian Railways, Liepaja SEZ, Ventspils Freeport Authority and the Freeport of Riga Authority, this year took place for the 20th time. This year's the Special event of the conference was a seminar “Trade China-Europe through the Baltic countries: prospects for transit growth, repletion, containerization”. The seminar was led by Alexei Bezborodov, the Managing partner of the independent research agency “InfraNews” (Russia). During the seminar the possibilities of Russia as a transit country for China's container transportation to Europe by rail and the Baltic ports’ role within these routes were discussed. The Port of Riga was mentioned as one of the most promising connections for containerized cargo transit, taking into account the infrastructure, Latvian transit policy as well as already established and well-functioning cooperation on container cargo transit by rail.
