Modernization of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky port to be completed by the end of 2019

An agreement on cooperation for the development of infrastructure at the port of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky was signed by the Federal Fishery Agency (FFA), Kamchatka Territory Government, FSUE The National Fish Resources and Free Port of Kamchatka LLC on 7 September 2017, at the Eastern Economic Forum, says FFA.

The document was signed by Ilya Shestakov, Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation – head of FFA, and Vladimir Ilyukhin, Governor of the Kamchatka Territory.

The purpose of the agreement is modernization and construction of port infrastructure facilities to ensure handling of aquatic bioresources in the interest of companies representing Kamchatka fishing industry and other sectors.

The document provides for reconstruction of berths and creation of logistic facilities for transshipment of aquatic bioresources, reconstruction of the port’s highway and expansion of its approach capacity to ensure its round-the-year use for building up the scope of cargo handled by the port terminal, increase of the catch transshipment, providing of port services to interested ship owners and transport companies.

In particular, there is a plan to build a container yard for 200 refrigerated containers to ensure transshipment of at least 20,000 t per month.

According to the agreement, the modernization is to be completed by the end of 2019.

Ilya Shestakov said this modernization is one of the phases in implementation of FFA’s Strategy for the development of sea terminals for comprehensive servicing of fishing ships involving onshore logistic infrastructure.

The head of the Kamchatka Region said that creation of a state-of-the-art port terminal would give an impetus to the development of the Kamchatka Territory’s fishing industry taking into consideration the growing catch in the area.

The Strategy for the development of sea terminals for comprehensive servicing of fishing ships till 2030 was approved by Russia’s Ministry of Agriculture (No 189).
