WMU's 2017 ESSP programme concludes
On 8 September, 32 students in the 2017 English and Study Skills Programme (ESSP) completed their intensive 3-month studies. WMU says, the ESSP curriculum is designed to upgrade the English language competencies of the participants in Academic English for maritime purposes. It may be taken as a precursor to WMU’s M.Sc. programmes, or as a stand-alone course for professionals wishing to improve their academic skills in English in the maritime context. The core components include academic writing skills, speaking and presentation skills as well as maritime-focused academic lectures by WMU professors, and IT and library workshops.
At the Closing Ceremony, Head of the ESSP, Associate Professor Michael Manuel, together with lecturers Anne Pazaver, Inger Battista, and Clive Cole presented the students with certificates of completion. This year’s cohort represented 17 countries: Azerbaijan, Benin, Cape Verde, Chile, China, Cuba, Egypt, Iraq, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Somalia, Thailand, Togo and Viet Nam.
Students who enrolled for the stand alone ESSP programme will now return home while the students enrolled for the Malmö M.Sc. programme will join the orientation week that begins on 11 September for the Class of 2018.
The next ESSP programme will run from 18 June to 7 September 2018.
