Freight volumes handled by Port of Tuapse stevedore rose 4.9% to 10.6 million tonnes

Nine-month cargo throughput at the terminals of JSC Tuapse Commercial Sea Port (TMTP, member of UCL Holding) reached 10.6 million tonnes, a 4.9-percent gain on the same period 2016, the stevedoring company reported.

The strong growth result is due to the positive trend in cargo handling in all segments at the Port of Tuapse.
Handling of grain in January – September rose 3.7% to 1.45 million tonnes, of coal - 2.33 million tonnes (+ 8.1%), of ferrous metals - 1.85 million tonnes (+ 6.9% ), liquid bulk oil - 4.94 million tonnes (+ 3.1%), fruit and vegetable products – to 5 500 tonnes.

Ferrous metals: the share of new cargo continues to grow: slabs volume - 1.5 million tonnes (-9.4%), steel in rolls – 215,000 tonnes (2016 – 6 500 tonnes), bar steel and iron rod – 148,000 tonnes (+ 56.6%), steel reinforcement and galvanized steel – 10 (new cargo).

Total grain shipments (handled by TMTP and TZT) reached 1.45 million tonnes (+ 3.7%). Grain volume increased significantly in August and September (+ 115% and + 82% on the figures in 2016).

Imports flows (0.05%) were generated by fruits cargo imported from Turkey in August-September 2017. The ban on Turkish fruits and vegetables was partially lifted in October 2016.

Handling of export cargo (accounts for 99,55% of total freight throughput) increased by 5% to 10.6 million tonnes.

From January through September 2017, the port stevedore handled 507 commercial ships (234 dry bulk carriers and 273 oil tankers) and 82 238 railcars (+ 4.8%).

Tuapse Commercial Sea Port JSC (TCSP) is the major terminal operator in Tuapse, a largest southern port in Russia. TCSP is part of UCL Port, a stevedoring division of UCL Holding. UCL Port comprises OJSC Sea Port St. Petersburg, CJSC Container Terminal Saint Petersburg, Universal Handling Terminal LLC based in North-West of Russia, and Taganrog port in the South. The Company’s fleet of handling equipment includes 28 gantry cranes with lifting capacity ranging 10 to 124 tonnes, 65 loaders and bulldozers. In 2016 cargo throughput at TCSP terminals reached 14.1 million tonnes.
