Freight flows handled at the seaport of Azov in the January-October period reached to 8,931,000 tonnes of various cargo, which is 7.1% more than in the same period last year, the IAA PortNews correspondent reported citing Vladimir Bragin, Captain of the seaport of Azov.
In the reporting period the port terminals were handling primarily grain, oil products and coal. Grain volumes increased by 14.1% to 5,290,000 tonnes, export of coal surged by 2.4 times to 709,000 tonnes. At the same time, export of petroleum products dropped 15.7% to 2,352,000 tonnes.
The Port of Azov own cargo throughput increased in the ten-month period by 21.5% to 6,672,000 tonnes. Handling of imports jumped by 41.5% to 287,000 tonnes, coastal trade volume leaped by 80.1% to 3,417,000 tonnes. On the contrary, exports shrank by 12.5% to 2,968,000 tonnes, transit cargo volume dropped by 20.7% to 2,259,000 tonnes.
The Port of Azov Harbour Master’s office in January-October 2017 issued 3,202 / 3,216 permits for arriving / departing vessels (2016 – 3,295 / 3,272).
The Port of Azov situated on the banks of the Don river is the main gateway between the Mediterranean Sea, Russia's inland waterways and the Caspian Sea, for freight flows to inland part of Russia, the Urals and Central Asia. The boundaries of the basin include the River Don from the 3151.0-km stretch towards receiving Buoy No 1 of Azov-Don Sea Canal, including outer anchorage No 6 and the Calancea bayou to Dugino stop-over point.
