Nuclear power plant of Vaygach icebreaker breaks Arktika’s record
On February 16, nuclear-powered icebreaker Vaygach broke the record of the Arktika icebreaker in terms of operation of its nuclear power plant which worked for 177,205 hours (previous record registered in August 2008 – 177,204 hours).
According to Mustafa Kashka, Chief Engineer and First Deputy General Director of FSUE Atomflot, specialists of Rosatomflot and Afrikantov Experimental Design Bureau completed their joint work to extend service life of nuclear power plants of Vaygach and Taimyr icebreakers to 200,000 hours.
