Throughput of port Ventspils (Latvia) in 2M’18 down 31% to 3.091 million tonnes

In January-March 2017, the port of Ventspils handled 3.091 million tonnes of cargo (-31%, year-on-year), the port authority told IAA PortNews.

Transshipment of liquid bulk cargo fell by 25% to 1.924 million tonnes, dry cargo – down 53% to 734,000 tonnes, general cargo – up 13% to 433,000 tonnes.

The port’s container throughput totaled 772 TEUs (no containers were handled in the same period of the previous year). Turnover of passengers grew by 12% to 29,464. The number of calls fell by 8% to 229.

Ventspils port is located near Venta river. There are terminals for loading and unloading of crude and oil products, liquid chemicals and fertilizers, metal and coal, timber and fish, containers and Ro-Ro trailers. In 2016, the port handled 18.8 mln t of cargo.
