Aker Arctic says the 13th Arctic Passion Seminar was held in Helsinki, Finland, on 15 March 2018. About a hundred Arctic specialists and other professionals from the shipping, shipbuilding and other related industries from around the world participated in Aker Arctic's annual customer seminar.
The opening speech was given by Mr. Petri Peltonen, Under-Secretary of State from the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment, Finland, who summarized the core policies in the country’s upcoming EU presidency with four letters: A for the Arctic, B for bioeconomy, C for cleantech, and D for digitalization.
Other guest speakers included Dan McGreer from Vard Marine Inc.; Mikhail Grigoryev from GECON; Torkild Skjong from Vard Group AS; Mikhail Belkin from FSUE Atomflot; Maxim Minin from PAO NOVATEK; Commander Tomi Kivenjuuri from the Ministry of the Interior, Finland; Tuomas Korpela from ICEYE; Alexey Fadeev from Gazpromneft-Sakhalin LLC; and Ilkka Rantanen from STARKICE Ltd. In addition, presentations were given by Reko-Antti Suojanen and Arto Uuskallio from Aker Arctic Technology Inc.
In addition to seminar presentations, one of the highlights of the Arctic Passion Seminar has always been the demonstration ice model test. This year, Aker Arctic demonstrated the icebreaking capability of the Finnish icebreaker Polaris, the world’s first LNG-powered icebreaker. The vessel is based on the Aker ARC 130 concept design and we have also carried out full-scale ice trials in 2017.
