The assembly was supervised by Admiral Nikolay Yevmenov, the Northern Fleet Commander. The attendees analysed the operation of standing and new missile systems by the submarine, surface and coastal forces of the Fleet, as well as combat and practical (i.e. training) application of missile weapons in various conditions, including in the Arctic.
The event was attended by the command staff of the NF, formations, commanding officers of ships and leading specialists in the field of missile weapons, representatives of the High Navy Command, and lecturers of the Naval Academy named after N.G. Kuznetsov, training centres and research institutes, and also representatives of the military industrial complex enterprises.
Competitions were held among combat crews of ships and submarines on using missile weapons. The first place among surface missile ships was taken by the small rocket ship Iceberg led by Captain III Rank Marat Garibyan. Among submarine cruisers with cruise missiles, the best result was shown by the nuclear-powered submarine cruiser Smolensk commanded by Captain I Rank Andrey Sokolov, and among strategic submarine missile carriers - by the strategic missile submarine cruiser Verkhoturye under Captain I Rank Andrey Plotnikov.
Ballistic and cruise ship-based missiles are the main strike weapons of the Northern Fleet. Currently, two main types of ballistic missiles are in service with its strategic nuclear forces – Bulava and Sineva. There are significantly more cruise missiles with ranges from hundreds to several thousands of kilometres. Among them there are the successfully proven Moskit and Granit anti-ship missiles, the new Onyx, which are in service with coastal missile systems, submarines and ships, as well as the Kalibr.
