MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company S.A. is enhancing intermodal connections via the port of Trieste, Italy, to improve transit times for shippers moving cargo between Asia, the Mediterranean and Europe, the company said in its press release.
The new "MSC Graz-Trieste Runner" shuttle train, operated together with Cargo Center Graz, connects Trieste with Werndorf, Austria, once a week. The service is the first direct connection between Trieste and Werndorf and its schedule is coordinated with MSC’s Far East Phoenix ocean-liner service to ensure optimal timing for intercontinental cargo delivery.
Depending on customer demand, the service may become more frequent in the future.
Complementing MSC’s outstanding global port coverage, with over 200 sea-freight services worldwide, MSC’s intermodal and haulage services deliver top connectivity with inland commercial centers. MSC delivers peace-of-mind logistics, ensuring optimum care and efficiency.
MSC collaborated with leading European retailer Lidl, a key partner for MSC in the region, to devise a tailor-made transport solution for containers shipped from the Far East to Lidl’s warehouse hub near Graz. Through close coordination with customers, MSC focuses on individual shippers’ needs and unique requirements, helping Lidl, in this case, to optimize its supply chain to shops in central and eastern Europe.
As a shareholder of the Trieste Marine Terminal, MSC will continue to develop its facilities as well as the connecting networks. With fast berthing procedures, sophisticated service coverage and short transit times, Trieste provides the ideal conditions for such a connection for Lidl and MSC is pleased to now expand the service for other shippers, such as exporters in the Styrian region.
The MSC Graz-Trieste Runner schedule will also be coordinated with the arrivals and departures of other sea-freight services making direct calls at Trieste, providing ideal connections for the European hinterland with the eastern Mediterranean, Greece, Turkey and the Red Sea, as well as Asia.
