Cargo turnover of the port of Caucasus up 6% in January 07
In January 2007, the port of Caucasus handled 334.42 thou tons of cargo (+6.32%, year-on-year), PortNews IAA learnt from Taman branch of Rosmorport FSUE. Transshipment of export cargo totaled 243.13 thou tons (+77.29%, year-on-year), import grew by 50.97% to 91.29 thou tons. Off-harbor transshipment of cargo was not carried out in January 2007. The port handled 223.71 thou tons of oil products, 100.05 of general cargo and 10.66 thou tons of fertilizers.
The port of Caucasus is situated at the border of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov at Kerch Strait from the side of Russia. The port of Caucasus is ice-free, so it has the ability to handle both river vessels (depth of up to 4.5 meters) and sea vessels (off-harbor handling of vessels). The territory of the port is crossed by a 2600-meter long railway line. The port handles timber, loose and general cargo.
