NOVATEK to place four FLNG facilities on the Northern Sea Route

Kamchatka and Murmansk Region terminals for storage and transshipment of LNG will be equipped with FLNG facilities, IAA PortNews correspondent cites Maksim Minin, Head of Port Engineering at NOVATEK’s LNG Project Department, as saying at the “Arctic Projects – Today and Tomorrow” conference held in Arkhangelsk.

“Floating storage facilities of 360 cbm are seen as the most economically reasonable. This volume comes from two shiploads. Ships will approach them from two sides for simultaneous loading/unloading. Each hub will have two storage units”, Maksim Minin explained.

The terminals will be built in the Murmansk Region and in Kamchatka. The projects are the same despite the dredging works required in Kamchatka.

Private investments in Kamchatka project are estimated at RUB 70 billion. The launching of the terminal’s first turn is scheduled for 2022.

The projects on construction of the terminals are focused on logistics optimization for a more efficient supply of LNG from Yamal and Gydan. They will also facilitate the development of the Northern Sea Route.
