Gdansk pays a visit to Singapore

Singapore is one of the strongest economies in Asia and its seaport ranks among the very top ports in the world. The Port of Gdansk Authority SA (PGA) says maritime cooperation between Singapore and Poland was the topic of a number of meetings attended by PGA representatives.

A delegation from the ports in Gdansk and Gdynia accompanied a government visit led by Marek Grobarczyk, Minister of Maritime Economy and Inland Navigation. At the same time, the "Dar Mlodziezy" sailing ship, currently circumnavigating the globe as a celebration of the centenary of Poland regaining independence, called at the Port of Singapore.

Apart from promoting Poland and its maritime industry, the aim of the delegation was also to exchange experiences. From the point of view of the PGA, bilateral meetings both with the Port of Singapore Authority and with the world's largest container operator, PSA International, based in Singapore, were the most important point of the visit. The Port of Singapore is the second largest port in the world. Its logistics, electronic, and process solutions set the trends in the global maritime industry.

"It is very important for the Port of Gdansk to establish business and personal relations with the best in the industry. We have a unique opportunity to use and implement the latest technologies, taking several steps of the port's development at once. We are convinced that the PSA's and MPA's competence and experience can help improve the functioning of our port. Moreover, we see huge potential for the expansion of exports for Polish businesses across the markets of Southeast Asia through Singapore. The Lion City is a true economic and financial tiger which has not really been tamed by Polish industry and services yet. And it's a pity, as it is the most convenient and reliable gateway to the huge markets in this part of the world," says Lukasz Greinke, President of the Board at the PGA SA.

The Port of Gdansk has been connected with Singapore for several years now. In 2015, the Loop 7 sea route - the link used by the shipowners from the G6 alliance, a union of the world's largest maritime transport operators - was extended to Gdansk. The Port of Gdansk is the only port in the Baltic Sea with infrastructure conditions allowing it to receive the largest vessels used by Asian shipowners.

"I can assure you that Gdansk's port will keep increasing its activity in Asia, promoting Gdansk as a logisticshub and supporting the creation of new business opportunities for our business partners and other Polish companies. We have also met the new Ambassador and staff of our Embassy there, and visited the local office of the Polish Investment and Trade Agency. These people guarantee us a reliable and professional approach to the promotion of Polish interests, which makes us very happy," adds Lukasz Greinke.
