Stevedoring division of UCL Holding handled 27.2 million tonnes of cargo in 9M’18

In January-September 2018, companies of UCL Port, stevedoring division of UCL Holding, handled 27.2 million tonnes of cargo, which is similar to the result shown in the same period of 2017.

According to the company’s press release, total handling of dry cargo grew by 4.2% to 23.4 million tonnes. Transshipment of oil cargo fell by 24.3% to 3.8 million tonnes with reduction in transshipment via Tuapse and Taganrog.

Exports accounted for 85% of the total throughput, imports made 14%, or 3.9 million tonnes.

In the reporting period, the highest growth was achieved in the segment of general cargo — to 7.3 million tonnes (+7.7%). It was primarily driven by the growth in transshipment of ferrous metal — by 8.1% to 5 million tonnes, and metal scrap – by 54% to 0.6 million tonnes.

Transshipment of containerized cargo (taking into account container throughput of Container terminal Saint-Petersburg CJSC, Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg JSC and Taganrog Sea Commercial Port JSC) totaled 7 million tonnes (+12%). In the 9-month period, Container terminal Saint-Petersburg increased its results to 550,300 TEU (+15%) and retained its leadership among Russian container operators. Container business growth was also demonstrated by Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg – 23,500 TEU (+24%).

Transshipment of dry bulk cargo fell to 9 million tonnes (-3.5%), mostly due to reduced shipments of coal to Tuapse and Taganrog – to 6.3 million tonnes (-9%) as well as at Multipurpose Reloading Complex in Ust-Luga. Transshipment of grain remained flat, year-on-year, at 1.8 million tonnes.
