Tuapse Sea Commercial Port (TSCP Group, part of UCL Holding) says its throughput in January-September 2018 fell by 10.9%, year-on-year, to 9.4 million tonnes showing different trends in dry cargo and liquid bulk cargo segments.
According to the statement, the decrease should be attributed to a 24-percent fall in transshipment of liquid bulk cargo, to 3.76 million tonnes.
Positive dynamics in transshipment of dry cargo has been retained — 5.7 million tonnes (+0.7% versus 9M’2017). The fall of coal transshipment to 2.03 million tonnes (-12.8% Y-o-Y) was compensated by a considerable growth (+18.5%) in the segment of ferrous metal – 2.2 million tonnes including 2 million tonnes of slabs (+35.5%).
The upward trend in ferrous metal segment is the result of efficient cooperation with the port’s strategic partner - the NLMK Group. Besides, TSCP Group has been consistently implementing its retrofit program, including modernization of its berths and storage facilities as well as upgrade of a fleet of gantry cranes and rubber-tired vehicles, says the statement.
Shipments of grain were almost flat, year-on-year, at 1.42 million tonnes (-2%).
Transshipment of fruits and vegetables continued recovery after the ban on imports from Turkey was partially lifted. In 9M’2018 it totaled 31,900 tonnes (versus 5,500 tonnes handled in 9M’2017).
The volume of exports, which forms the bulk of TSCP throughput, fell by 11.7%, yea-on-year, to 9.3 million tonnes, while imports totaled 0,14 million tonnes.
Between January and September, TSCP Group handled 558,000 commercial ships (239 dry cargo carriers and 319 oil tankers) and 83,648 railcars.
Tuapse Sea Commercial Port (TCSP Group) is the major terminal operator at the Port of Tuapse, one of Russia’s largest ports. TCSP is part of UCL Port, a stevedoring division of international transport group UCL Holding. UCL Port comprises Sea Port St. Petersburg JSC, Container Terminal Saint Petersburg CJSC, Universal Handling Terminal LLC based in the North-West of Russia, and Taganrog Commercial Sea Port in the South. The fleet of TCSP’s cargo handling equipment numbers 28 portal cranes with capacity of 10 to 124 tonnes, 65 loaders and bulldozers. In 2017, the company handled 14.2 million tonnes of cargo.
