MAN Energy Solutions wins contract to supply the engines for a new harbour tug in Spain

MAN Energy Solutions has won the contract to supply the engines for a new harbour tug in Spain, the company said in its release.

P&O Reyser will operate the 27-metre newbuild, 75T bollard-pull-rated Asymmetric Tractor Tug (ATT) in the Port of Barcelona, which is expected to enter service from mid-2020. The vessel will feature 2 × MAN 12V175D MM, IMO Tier III engines, each rated at 2,220 kWm. The engines will be connected to FPP azimuth thrusters for propulsion, whilst also providing power to support on-board towing and fire-fighting capabilities. The engines will be supplied in accordance with Lloyds Register Society classification rules.

The engines, along with the associated SCR exhaust-gas emissions-after-treatment system, will be supplied to Drydocks World-Dubai shipyard, who are undertaking the vessel construction, direct from MAN Energy Solutions' new MAN 175D production facility, located in Frederikshavn, Denmark.

Cintranaval, a top Spanish ship design office, has also been a key player in this process offering their expertise from up to 300 tugboats and offshore vessels designed over more than 50 years.

ABOUT THE MAN 175D ENGINE

MAN Energy Solutions has developed the MAN 175D engine range to supplement and complete its product portfolio in the maritime sector. The 12-cylinder variant of the engine is available with an output ranging from 1,500 to 2,220 Kilowatts and is optimised for propelling ferries, offshore supply vessels, tug boats and other working vessels. Other market areas, such as super-yachts and naval marine applications are also served by additional, specialist model versions. It is also an extremely eco-friendly engine, being designed from the outset with compliance to the latest, as well as future, exhaust-gas-emission requirements and utilises a very compact and flexible SCR system, which enables vessel designers to optimise space on board to the maximum.
