Plan of action for Norway’s martime industry

The Norwegian government has announced a plan of action for the maritime industry to be introduced this spring. The plan only goes some of the way to improve business operating conditions for Norwegian ship owners. A big bone of contention is the Norwegian wealth tax, which more than anything has forced Norwegian owners abroad. According to minister of state Frode Berge, the government will not abolish the wealth tax, but will rather propose other measures which will “prove equally effective”. Conservative Jan Tore Sanner says his party wants a tonnage tax in line with the EU and a removal of the wealth tax.
