RF President calls on encouraging shipping companies to use gas fuel
When responding to the report of Sauli Niinistö, President of Finland, at the 5th International Arctic Forum ‘The Arctic: Territory of Dialogue’, Russian President Vladimir Putin called on encouraging shipping companies to use gas fuel, particularly in the Arctic. According to IAA PortNews correspondent, Vladimir Putin referred to gas as more environmentally friendly fuel.
“ What is vitally important in my opinion, and here I agree with Sauli (President of Finland Sauli Niinistö-Ed.), is the conversion of ships to more environmentally friendly types of fuel. First of all, I mean gas fuel, especially for ships operating in northern and Arctic seas. That is of utmost importance and that is absolutely obvious. Shipbuilding and shipping companies should be encouraged towards using such types of transport and fuel”, said the President of Russia.
Vladimir Putin emphasized that it is still not absolutely clear what causes global warming. “Its connection with uncontrolled emissions or more global causes is a question”, he said.
‘Arctic: Territory of Dialogue’ forum is a key platform for discussing current issues relating to the socioeconomic development of Arctic regions and for developing multi-level, multilateral mechanisms for joint discovery and effective exploitation of the Arctic’s rich natural resource potential.
