Copenhagen Malmo Port has a good year in 2006

Copenhagen Malmö Port (CMP) has a good year in 2006. The cargo volume handled grew with 10 per cent. The profit went up with 16 per cent and the turnover reach a all time high of SEK 649 million. The profit ended on SEK 93 million against SEK 80 million in 2005. Especially the growth in import of new cars was high with a raise of 30 per cent to 440,000 units during 2006. Furthermore was there a growth in ferry traffic from Malmö to Travemünde on 15 per cent. Container traffic saw an extra 13 per cent to 175,000 TEUs over the quayside’s and finally seven per cent more cruise passengers to a total of 458,000. The total cargo volume landed on 16.6 million tons or 1.4 million tons more than 2005.
   A number of investments in both ports are in the pipeline for the coming years. An extra pier for tankers will be built at Prøvestenen in Copenhagen and the approach to the oil terminal at Malmö will be widened. CMP is planning new cruise-ship quays in Copenhagen and a new ferry and containerterminal in Malmö. A combi-terminal in Malmö is also planned together with a logistics park.
