Russian Railways and Global Ports sign Cooperation Agreement
Russian Railways and the Global Ports Group have concluded an agreement on long-term cooperation to develop transport and logistics solutions, Russian Railways says in a press release. The document was signed today at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum by Vladimir Goloskokov, the head of October Railways, and Vladimir Bychkov, the Managing Director of Global Ports.
The agreement covers the implementation of joint activities for the processing of international freight and includes the use of modern and innovative logistics technologies and practices for the development of the Russian market for logistics services and attracting additional freight traffic. The agreement is aimed in particular at creating efficient technologies that contribute to the growth of rail container traffic with transshipment at ports and dry ports, as well as finding ways to optimise the activity of the port stations in order to increase their carrying capacity.
One of the areas of joint work between the ports and railways will be the development and implementation of a system for encouraging transit traffic at ports in Russia’s North-West and Far East via the Trans-Siberian route.
A separate clause in the agreement provides for creating electronic data exchange and facilitating the introduction of e-shipment and smart contract technologies for the further development of the digitalisation process in transport.
In addition, the parties plan to establish a platform for the exchange of statistical and analytical information and integrated prospective development plans, as well as to participate jointly in their development.
