Ports of the Baltic states upped cargo turnover by 43% in 2006
In 2006, the ports of the Baltic states handled 138.751 million tons (+4.046 million tons, or +3%, year-on-year). In 2005 they transshipped 134.704 million tons, RZD-Partner reports. The share of Latvian ports in the total turnover totaled 42.9%, Estonian – 35.9%, Lithuanian – 21.2%. Cargo turnover of Latvian ports decreased by 545.2 thou tons (-0.5%) – to 59.497 million tons, Estonian – grew by 3.076 million tons (+6.6%), to 49.818 million tons; Lithuanian – grew by 1.515 million tons (+5.4%), to 29.436 million tons. Cargo turnover of the portof Tallinn grew by 5% - to 41.3 million tons, Ventspils – fell by 2.7%, to 29.062 million tons; Klaipeda – grew by 8%, to 23.5 million tons.
