Stevedoring division of UCL Holding handled 19 million tonnes of cargo in 1H’2019, up 2.3% YoY
In the first half of 2019, companies of UCL Port, stevedoring division of UCL Holding, handled 19 million tonnes of cargo, up 2.3% as compared with the same period of the previous year.
In the reporting period, handling of dry cargo totaled 15.8 million tonnes, which is almost the same as in the first half of 2018 (15.9 million tonnes). Transshipment of oil cargo grew by 19.3% to 3.2 million tonnes driven by the increased transshipment via Tuapse and Taganrog.
As compared with 1H’2018, the share of exports slightly decreased — by 0.6 p.p. to 84.2% of the total throughput. The share of imports — 14.6%, or 2.8 million tonnes. Coastal trade cargo accounted for 1.2%.
In the reporting period, transshipment of containerized cargo* grew by 7.1% to 419,000 TEUs. Container terminal Saint-Petersburg increased its results by 7.4% to 402,100 TEUs. Container business growth was also demonstrated by Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg having increased container handling by 4% to 16,200 TEUs.
Handling of general cargo fell by 7.7% to 4.6 million tonnes primarily due to reduction in transshipment of ferrous metal amid decreased shipments from iron and steel plants. However, the growth was demonstrated in the segment of fruit and vegetable products at Tuapse Sea Commercial Port (up 3.1 times to 84,000 tonnes) and in the segment of non-ferrous metal at Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg (up 20% to 705,000 tonnes).
Transshipment of dry bulk cargo showed a slight change (-1%) having totaled 6 million tonnes. Handling of thermal coal at Multipurpose Reloading Complex grew by 8% to 2.6 million tonnes.
