In the first half of 2019, Sea Port St. Petersburg JSC (SP SPB) invested RUB 468.3 million in the development of handling and storage facilities, which is three times more than in the same period of 2018. The bulk of the funds – about 80% of the total investment – was allocated by SP SPB to implement its handling equipment upgrade program, the company said Monday in a press release.
Since the beginning of the year, the port has taken delivery of seven units of handling equipment, including the new Vityaz jib crane, a reach stacker, bucket material handlers and a loader, as well as five equipment units for handling general and bulk cargoes. By the end of the year, the fleet of cargo handling equipment of SP SPB will be expanded with a tractor, three flatbed trailers and 11 forklift trucks of various lifting capacities.
As part of the modernization of port infrastructure, the company carried out works on preparing quay wall for handling containers. Alexey Vazhov, Commercial Director, SP SPB says that this will allow concentrating all containerized cargo handling operations, which will improve the quality of the services provided and will ensure further development of the container services of Sea Port St. Petersburg JSC, which, in addition to standard handling operations, offers customers a number of additional services. The new territory for containerized cargo will be completed for commissioning by September of this year.
At the same time, thanks to shifting containers to a new site, SP SPB will be able to expand the site for handling metal cargo.
The company also rehabilitated the port railway infrastructure. During the reporting period, the overhaul of three railway tracks and track switсhes was completed on the territory of the Second Port Area.
To increase the throughput capacity SP SPB carried out work to expand the site for handling scrap metal.
In addition to the production infrastructure, the company commenced modernization of several port energy facilities, including the reconstruction of electric power networks, as well as the security and fire safety systems of buildings and facilities.
